John Boyd Robbins of Point Harbor, NC died on October 31, 2021, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was 84 years old. John was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 23, 1936 to Inez Hurst Robbins and Edgar Boyd Robbins.
John attended the University of Alabama Birmingham after which he joined Hayes International Corporation and worked on projects related to the space program. Later the company transferred him to Elizabeth City where he served as the Industrial Relations Manager when the company was overhauling P5M seaplanes for the Navy. He eventually left the company and worked in private enterprise until his retirement. He worked part-time for Ace Hardware in Nags Heads before retiring again after 18 years.
John is survived by his wife Margaret Robbins and his two children and four grandchildren, his son John Boyd Robbins, Jr. and wife Sue of Hampstead, NC and their children Dana and Samantha; and his daughter Lucy Berry and husband Stephen of Manteo, NC and their children Dylan and Luke.
He is also survived by Margaret’s three children and six grandchildren, Michael Nichols and wife Heather and their daughter Caroline; Matthew Nichols and wife Jean and their children Nathan and Natalie all of Wilmington, NC; and Carrie Simpson and her children Robert, Nicholas, and Hayley of Point Harbor, NC. He also leaves behind his loving dog Sophie.
In addition, John is survived by his brother Bill Robbins and sister Elgie Dean Campbell. Two sisters, Emogene Browning and Jewel Martin predeceased him.
