The Historic Jarvisburg Colored School, 7302 Caratoke Highway (U.S. 158) in Jarvisburg is launching an audio artwork project that can be heard via FM radio onsite and in the vicinity of the historic site along U.S. 158.

Songlines on Site uses historic local folk songs inspired by alumni of the school, which were recorded in the spring of 2019 by alumni descendants and local Currituck children.

The recordings will air starting Sunday, June 6, on 107.1 FM, which can be heard within a one-mile radius of the school as an outdoor audio soundscape that will illuminate and enhance the interior exhibition displays.

The museum is open Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit hjcschool.org or call 252-491-2409.
