Bill G. Blevins

Bill G. Blevins, 87, formerly of Elizabeth City, NC died Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

He was born October 23, 1933, in Banner Elk, NC to the late Burns Otway Blevins and Blanche Hamrick Blevins and was the widower of Doris Edwards Blevins.

He was a graduate of Lees-McRae College, Appalachian State University, and earned master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Massachusetts. He was Headmaster at the Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, MA, a member of Corinth Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army Veteran.

He is survived by three daughters, Darla Blevins Carroll (Robert) of Chesapeake, VA, Mary Beth Graff (Petter) of Austin, TX, and Kristin Blevins Beyer of Denver, NC; a sister, Janice Marie Helmkamp of Virginia Beach, VA; and three grandchildren, Logan Nicole Beyer, Jackson Blevins Beyer, and Julianna Grace Birlin. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Harry Burns Blevins; a sister, Karen Blevins Berry; and a son-in-law, Dr. A. James “Jay” Beyer III.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
