William Thomas Caroon, a retired U. S. Air Force Pilot, passed away on July 6, 2023, at The Jane at Tarboro in Tarboro, NC. He was born on June 23, 1944, in Nags Head, NC. At the time of his passing, William was 79 years old.
Having served his country with honor and dedication, William flew C-130s as an Air Force Pilot for 23 years before retiring. His commitment to his duties and his unwavering sense of duty were emblematic of his character.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Rebecca Caroon and Flora Dell Winslow Caroon. He leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joanne Guard Caroon, and two sons, Steven Caroon (Chelsey) of Odenton, MD and Joshua Caroon (Shelby) of Winterville, NC. Additionally, he is survived by his step-granddaughter, Lexi.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate William’s life will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. F. Joe Griffith. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will take place in the Guard Family Cemetery, Aydlett, NC. All are welcome to attend the committal.
