Wiley Ray Sawyer, age 82, of Hertford, NC died Sunday, June 13, 2021 at his home.
He was born on February 12, 1939 in Chesapeake, VA to the late Charles Ray Sawyer and Elizabeth Woolslayer Sawyer. Wiley retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he worked as a Planner/Estimator. He enjoyed working on small engines of lawn mowers for his friends and neighbors. An avid fisherman for years, he enjoyed his home on the Perquimans River and the time spent with his neighbors.
Those left to cherish his memory includes his nephews, Charles R. “Chuck” Sawyer and wife Donna, and Michael R. Sawyer and wife Missy; a niece, Robin D. Baliles’ great nieces, Carlee S. Rose and Logan P. Sawyer and a great nephew, Colby L. Sawyer. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Charlie Ray Sawyer and Robert William Marshall.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 22, 2021at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Minister Kevin Reiver officiating. Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC is serving the Sawyer family. You may express condolences to the family by visiting www.TwifordFH.com.
