WIC programs in eight inland counties begin remote services due to COIVD-19

The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program offered through Albemarle Regional Health Services local health departments is providing full services without participants having to visit the office due to COVID-19.

The WIC program is accepting applications, completing certifications, and issuing benefits by phone. The United States Department of Agriculture has granted the North Carolina Nutrition Services Branch a waiver for the requirement of physical presence due to COVID-19.

The WIC program has been granted the ability to defer certain requirements used to determine nutritional risk, such as height, weight and hemoglobin for a short period of time.
These special measures have been approved for use in North Carolina through May 31, however this date may be subject to change.

WIC continues to offer breastfeeding support and supplies as needed.
