A powerful pre-winter storm is forecast to bring significant snowfall to areas from Washington D.C. up to New England, with snow also forecast for the Virginia and North Carolina mountains and ice as far east as the Triangle.
However, the Outer Banks will just see typical conditions from one of these big storms that develop right off our coast, with rain and windy conditions and the possibility of severe weather for some parts of eastern North Carolina.
[NWS graphic]Damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes are possible in the strongest storms mainly along and east of U.S. 17 according to forecasters at the Newport/Morehead City office of the National Weather Service.
Heavy rainfall at times could produce minor flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas.
The new moon this week will lead to higher tides the rest of the week, and coupled with easterly winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts of up to 40, minor flooding along the sounds and coastal rivers in very low-lying areas.
High tide is around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, and a coastal flood advisory has been issued for 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The strong winds will create rough seas across the coastal waters will produce conditions which are dangerous to all mariners, and a gale warning has been posted for both the sounds and ocean.

Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 10am. High near 63. Windy, with an east wind 20 to 30 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
