The Town of Kill Devil Hills will have a temporary road closure beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, for W. Third Street at the intersection with Sunset Avenue as part of a stormwater drain improvements, a new water main, sidewalks and repaving.
Fred Smith Company was awarded a $2.6 million contract for the work taking place between Bay Drive and North Croatan Highway that is scheduled for completion in late spring 2022.
Through traffic on W. Third Street at the intersection will be prohibited during this closure. Local traffic will access Sunset Avenue from the north using Clam Shell Drive and from the south using Indian Drive. Sea Swept Road to the east of the closure can be used to detour from W. Third Street to Clam Shell Drive and on to Bay Drive.
West Third Street will remain open from the west for access to adjacent properties throughout the closure.
The temporary road closure is scheduled to end by 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
