Water rescue exercises set for Thursday near U.S. 17 bridge over Perquimans River

If you are driving on U.S. 17 over the Perquimans River on Thursday, don’t be alarmed if you see multiple boats working near the high rise portion of the Jim “Catfish” Hunter Bridge.

A water rescue team based in Hertford, and also assists first responders around the region, will be conducting exercises throughout the day at the bridge.

“The Perquimans County Volunteer Water Rescue Team will be conducting an exercise that will test several skills that may be used when responding to a water rescue event,” said Julie M. Solesbee, Public Information Office for Perquimans County Emergency Services.

Solesbee said the exercises are scheduled to run Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
