Water main repairs completed in Stumpy Point; System pressure advisory in effect

The Dare County Water Department has announced that water main repairs have been completed and a System Pressure Advisory is in effect for Stumpy Point water customers located in the area from 224 Bayview Drive to the end of the village of Stumpy Point—as indicated by the yellow highlighted area on the map below—whose water service was temporarily disrupted due to a water main break that occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

Based on the potential for contamination from the main break, water users in this area of Stumpy Point are advised to boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and making ice) or use bottled water. Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

Map of the affected area. Text reads, "Affected area: 224 Bayview Dr. to the end of the village of Stumpy Point"

Samples were collected throughout the affected area to confirm the microbiological quality as soon as pressure was restored. The System Pressure Advisory will be lifted on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 9 a.m. If there is a problem, customers will be notified of a continued advisory. Customers may continue to experience periods of low pressure and discolored water until full service is restored.

The Dare County Water Department appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during this service disruption as repairs were completed.
