Virginia couple killed in Kitty Hawk laid to rest

Family and friends celebrated the lives of Alan “AJ” Nicolette Jr. and his wife Holly Willis Nicolette with a joint funeral service in Glen Allen, Virginia on Saturday. The couple was struck and killed April 1 on N.C. 12 in Kitty Hawk as they walked along the shoulder with their children and Alan’s parents.

Alan “AJ” Anthony Nicolette Jr., 37, born June 7, 1981, in Livingston, New Jersey, to Alan and Anne Nicolette, passed away Monday, April 1, 2019.

Alan, known as “AJ” to his family and those closest to him, was married to Holly Willis Nicolette for 12 years and leaves behind two children, Mckenna, 8 and Luca, 5. He is also survived by his parents, Alan and Anne; and two brothers, Jeff and his wife, Kristy and Andrew and his wife, Margaux; his grandmother, Roxie Nicolette.

For everyone who knew him, AJ was a gregarious, generous and dedicated person to his family and the people closest to him. He loved playing golf and was pretty sure he’d beat you if you played together.

He, Holly and the kids loved spending time at the Outer Banks and they counted down the days leading up to every summer.

He and Holly loved listening to Dave Matthews Band and seeing them live every chance they could.

He loved cutting the grass with his son, Luca and playing soccer with Mckenna.

The family received friends Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Hunton Baptist Church, where a service was held at 11 a.m. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to a fund established to financially support their two children.

Obituary for Holly Willis Nicolette

God allowed, we grieve and ask why, for the tragic deaths of Holly and her husband, Alan Jr., on Monday, April 1, 2019.

While spending spring break with AJ’s parents in Kitty Hawk, N.C., they were struck down by a truck as they were walking along. Their home here was in Summer Walk in Mechanicsville, Va.

They are survived by their children, Mckenna, age eight and Luca, age five; her parents, Katherine (Kitty) and Bernard Willis; her grandmother, Ann James; also a large and loving family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Thomas James, Virginia and Whitfield Willis.

Holly was a much loved, dedicated and faithful teacher in Hanover County, at South Anna Elementary School. To her family, she was a loving, thoughtful and joyful person, and a terrific mother and devoted wife.

A service remembering Holly and thanking God for allowing us to know and love her for 39 years was held Saturday, April 6, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Hunton Baptist Church, 11660 Greenwood Rd., Glen Allen, Va. 23059. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
