VIDEO: Recapping Dare County’s Annual Dare to Scare 5k and Sweet Treat Fun Run

Dare County, in partnership with Current TV, has released a new video highlighting the annual Dare to Scare 5k and Sweet Treat Fun Run, which was held on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

The 5k event consists of a 3.1-mile race on a scenic course that begins at the Coastal Studies Institute in Skyco and continues along various residential roadways and trails—including portions of the Marshall and Gussie Collins Walkway—before ending at the finish line located at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center in Manteo.

In addition to the 5k, a Sweet Treat Fun Run was also held in the parking lot of the community center for younger children and other participants who wanted to compete in a shorter race.

Awards were presented to the top three male and top three female 5k race finishers. Race participants were also encouraged to wear Halloween costumes for the event, and awards were presented to the participants with the top five costumes for both the 5k and the fun run.

“The Virginia S. Tillett Community Center had a great turnout this year of approximately 250 participants, both virtual and in person,” said Jackie Pikulski Frappier, who serves as race director for the event. “Thank you if you joined us for either of these opportunities to participate in the 5k! If you would like to see the place winners, costume winners and departmental challenge winners—or to see more pictures from the event—please visit the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center’s Facebook page.”

Funds raised from Dare to Scare race registrations benefit the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center’s Annual Toy Drive, which will be held in December and is designed to provide toys for youth ages 0-16 in the Dare County community on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration for the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center Annual Toy Drive begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, and ends at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Children must be registered in person at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center, which is located at 950 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo. For more information about the toy drive, please call the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center at 252-475-9270 or visit www.DareNC.com/TillettCenter.
