In September 2019, with Hurricane Humberto’s 8-to-10 foot swells rolling in and red “No Swimming” flags flying up and down the beach, Nags Head Ocean Rescue Lifeguard Austin Fallon rescued a man who was in distress under Jennette’s Pier.
On June 4, 2021, the U.S. Coast Guard awarded Fallon their Silver Lifesaving Medal for his heroic actions.
