Lights at eight beach accesses in the Town of Nags Head now have a much different color at night, as Dominion Energy is in the process of installing amber-colored LED lights designed not to attract hatching sea turtles towards them.

Teaming up with the town and Dominion are the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, and the Smart Outdoor Lighting Alliance.

The special lights are being installed as part of a pilot project at Gallery Row, Abalone, Blackman, Bladen, Curlew, Gulfstream, East Tides Drive.
