VIDEO: Dare County’s N.C. Governor’s Volunteer Award winners for 2021

Dare County, in partnership with Current TV, has released “2021 North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Awards – Dare County,” a video that provides detailed information about the annual statewide awards program—and that also tells viewers which individuals were selected as Dare County recipients for 2021.

Each year, the Governor of North Carolina recognizes individuals as well as groups of people who have made a significant contribution to their community through their dedication to volunteer service. In 2021, several Dare County volunteers were recognized for the substantial amount of time, energy and effort they put into helping others within the Dare County  community.

Among those who received an award this year are Angelo and Gail Sonnesso, co-founders of the Gentle Expert Memorycare (GEM) Adult Day Services program, a community-based nonprofit organization that has provided local leadership in dementia care since 1997.

The Sonnessos—whose volunteer efforts are featured in the video—were awarded the 2021 North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Award for their work with this program that is dedicated to offering a positive and supportive environment for adults with memory loss, and physical and mental disabilities, as well as those in need of socialization.

If you know an individual or a group of individuals who deserve to be recognized for devoting a substantial amount of their time and energy to volunteerism and making a difference in Dare County, please submit a nomination form for the 2022 North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards when the nomination period begins later this year.
