The Town of Kill Devil Hills says one of their well-loved staff members has been out sick recently, but is on the road to recovery.

Joseph “Mike” Wilson, a Sanitation Equipment Operator, is known for his “Good Morning!” waves and honks and many in the town had noticed recently they had missed his morning greetings.

“It took no time at all for our community members to realize that Mike was not doing his usual routes. This observation and the inquires we have received speak volumes about Mike’s character and how much he is adored by our citizens,” the town posted on their Facebook page.

Mike and his family passed along thanks to everyone for their prayers, cards, and gifts.

“It has meant the world to them,” according to the town.

“Our Outer Banks community is made up of wonderful and caring people who remain ready to help one another when they need it the most. We would like to ask that you continue to keep Mike in your prayers. If you would like to send him a card, you can send it to P.O. Box 563, Manteo, NC 27954.”
