UPDATED, Tuesday 7:30 p.m.: Regional health officials said Tuesday afternoon that two additional cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in Bertie County, pushing the northeastern North Carolina total to five.
All three people who tested positive for COVID-19 are in isolation, according to Albemarle Regional Health Services.
The regional health department for seven inland counties said N.C. Department of Health and Human Services guidelines are being followed on “contract tracing” to determine those who had close contact with the patients.

Regional health officials confirmed Tuesday a resident of Bertie County has tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases in northeastern North Carolina to three.
Albemarle Regional Health Services director R. Battle Betts, Jr., said the individual is in isolation but shared no additional details.
On Monday, ARHS announced a resident of Hertford County had tested positive. The first case in the region was reported in Pasquotank County on March 19.
Health officials say there have been no cases found on the Outer Banks, while statewide 398 cases had been confirmed on Tuesday, with no deaths.
In Virginia, the first death in southside Hampton Roads was reported Monday in Virginia Beach, one of six in The Commonwealth.
A total of 17 cases had been reported in Virginia Beach as of Tuesday. Chesapeake and Suffolk have one case each, while five were reported in Norfolk and three in Portsmouth.
