UPDATED: Suspect remains held without bond in homicide of two men from Manteo

UPDATE, Wednesday 5 p.m.:The Dare County Sheriff’s Office says they are continuing their investigation into the deaths of Michael Berry and Norwood Armstrong Jr.

Jack Wise III, who has been charged with the two deaths, made a first appearance on Tuesday in Dare County District Court and remains held under no bond following that hearing.

Once the investigation is complete the Sheriff’s Office will submit the case to the District Attorney’s Office for review to go before a grand jury. At that time any additional charges will be sought.

The Sheriff’s Office also extends their condolences to the families of Michael Berry and Norwood Armstrong Jr.

EARLIER STORY:
A Roanoke Island man faces a pair of first degree murder charges after the bodies of two men were found on Sunday, one in Dare County and the other in Currituck County.

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office was notified around 3 p.m. Sunday of their need to respond to assist Dare County EMS at the Scarborough Square Mobile Home Park north of Manteo.

Michael Berry, 35, of Manteo, was found dead and investigators determined it was the result of a homicide, according to a news release.

At 8:15 p.m., the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office received information from Dare County deputies about a possible missing or deceased person located along Macedonia Church Road near Poplar Branch.

Members of the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office SWAT/Search and Rescue Team responded, and after receiving additional information, located the body of Norwood Armstrong, 68, of Manteo in a wooded area.

Jack Dempsey Wise, III, 37, of Manteo, faces two counts of felony first degree murder and was being held under no bond at the Dare County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation by local authorities and the State Bureau of Investigation. More charges are pending, according to the news release.
