Updated: Southern Shores breaking and entering suspect arrested in Currituck

Updated, 3:30 p.m.: The Southern Shores Police Department said Michael Chalmers Pruitt was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Jonathan M. Slegel said that a number of tips were provided by the public based on this story.

The Southern Shores Police Department is asking for the public’s help to find a Currituck County man wanted for allegedly breaking into a home Monday afternoon.

Pruitt, 48, of Coinjock, is wanted for the felony breaking and entering and felony larceny that happened between 2 and 5 p.m. in the area of Chicahauk and N.C. 12.

Pruitt was last seen in the area of Tides Drive in Duck on a bike with a basket on the front.

There is also information that he was in the area of Chicahauk Trail and N.C. 12 in Southern Shores last night and was in the area of Porpoise Run this morning.

The suspect was reported to be wearing a long sleeve grey sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

Anyone who sees this subject is not to approach and is asked to contact law enforcement.
