The North Carolina Coastal Federation’s annual Hatteras Island Oyster Roast, which was originally scheduled for February 5, has been canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, per a recent update from event organizers.

“We regret to announce that due to the high rate of COVID infections in Dare County, and the impacts of COVID on our staff and volunteers, the 2022 Hatteras Island Oyster Roast is canceled,” stated the North Carolina Coastal Federation in an online update. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. This has been a very hard decision and we are truly disappointed, but want to prioritize the health and safety of our team, our volunteers, and our community.”

Ticket holders will be given a refund, and can expect an email with details in the immediate future.

In the update, the North Carolina Coastal Federation noted that the event’s silent auction will still be held virtually, and the public can view and bid on items online at https://hiroast2022.ggo.bid/bidding/package-browse.

“We hope that you will continue to explore the great items available in the silent auction,” stated the Carolina Coastal Federation “We are working on a few new items featuring local beer and oysters so we can all still enjoy some local oysters- stay tuned!”

This is the second year in a row that the annual February event has been canceled. The Hatteras Island Oyster Roast was also canceled in 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
