Earlier story:

A 19-year-old man was shot outside the Pig N Mor’ convenience store in Currituck County on Saturday evening.

The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office said the person who fired the shot has been identified and “investigators are interviewing witnesses and those involved.”

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. at the store at 4473 Caratoke Highway in Coinjock, the sheriff’s office said. EMS workers planned to fly the victim by helicopter to a trauma center, but the helicopter was called off at the end and he was taken to the hospital.

The sheriff’s office originally indicated the victim was an employee. An eyewitness later told OBX Today that the person shot was harassing an employee.
