UPDATED, Thursday 10:45 p.m.: Outer Banks Distlling said it took only a few hours for the entire supply of free hand sanitizer they made to run out.

But not to worry, the makers of the popular Kill Devil Rum brand said they are getting more ingredients to make another batch in a few days. And they will make sure those most in need get it in their hands first.

PREVIOUS STORY: Outer Banks Distilling, makers of the popular Kill Devil Rum brand, has switched to making hand sanitizer. And they are making if available free of charge.

Bottles can be picked-up at their distillery at 510 Budleigh Street in downtown Manteo.

“If you can’t get here call us at 252-423-3011 and we will do our best to deliver,” they posted on their Facebook page Thursday.

It is a 70-percent alcohol by volume solution that will work for sanitizing surfaces as well as hands if you’re in a pinch, they said. But they note that soap and hot water is always best for washing your hands.
