Soundside water rise possible overnight along Hatteras Island

Another big blow, albeit short lived, is on tap for the Outer Banks this evening and the National Weather Service has posted a coastal flood advisory for tonight through early Saturday.

A coastal flood advisory has been posted from Friday at 7 p.m. until Saturday at 8 a.m. for soundside areas of Hatteras Island from Rodanthe to Hatteras village, according to the National Weather Service in Newport.

Between one and two feet of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas adjacent to the Pamlico Sound, with the greatest inundation forecast from Avon to Frisco.

Elevated water levels are also possible for Ocracoke, with inundation of mainly one foot or less possible.

Gale Warnings have been issued for all of the coastal waters and the Pamlico Sound for Friday afternoon into Saturday.

Northwest winds over 20 mph are expected to peak around sunrise on Saturday, then become west-northwest as they drop-off Saturday night.

Some roads and low-lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront may experience shallow flooding.

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth, and take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
