UPDATED: Tornado watch in effect for Currituck, north until 7 a.m.

NWS

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch through 7 a.m. Monday from the Currituck Beach Light north to Fenwick Island, Delaware. A gale warning is in effect for south of Oregon Inlet and the Pamlico Sound through Monday morning.

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to cross eastern North Carolina ahead of a cold front, with the primary being damaging winds. However, large hail, isolated tornadoes and locally heavy rain will be possible, the weather service said.

The best chance for severe storms will be until 7 a.m.

High pressure will build in Tuesday and move offshore Wednesday before another potentially strong front approaches the area at the end of the week.
