On Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, Island Farm will host it’s popular “Draped in Black” event.

During a nighttime tour of the Farm, visitors will explore the mourning rituals of early island families on the Outer Banks.

Costumed interpreters will lead guests around the Farm and into the historic homestead by candlelight, telling stories of the Farm’s former residents and explaining peculiar ways of Victorian mourning. The guided tour ends in the over-200 year old Island Farm cemetery, complete with spooky stories of the Farm’s descendants.

The event takes place between 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7. Admission for the event is $10 for all ages 11 and older; admission for ages 4-10 is $5, and children ages 3 and under are free. Reservations are not required for this event.

Island Farm is located at 1140 N US Highway 64, north of Manteo on Roanoke Island.

Island Farm is owned and operated by Outer Banks Conservationists, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1980 to protect important natural, cultural, and historic resources along North Carolina’s Outer Banks through education and conservation of a sense of place.
