U.S. 158 was shut down in both directions on Friday, after a collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck between First Street and Landing Drive.

Kill Devil Hills police Capt. J.C. Towler, Jr., said the crash happened at approximately 2:24 p.m. near the entrance to Publix and Lowe’s.

Nathan Jones, 31, of Holtwood, Pennsylvania, was driving unlawfully and at a high rate of speed between the two lanes of southbound traffic on North Croatan Highway, according to Towler.

Jones was unable to see or did not stop in time to avoid a rear-end collision with the pickup truck. He was ejected from the bike and was transported to The Outer Banks Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the pickup was shaken, but did not report any injury at the scene, Towler said.

Jones has been cited for careless and reckless operation.
