Trula Mae Gibbs Dozier

Manteo – Trula Mae was born February 17, 1941 in Engelhard, North Carolina to the late John Anson Gibbs and Gertrude Spencer Gibbs.  She died August 25, 2022 at ECU Medical Center, Greenville, North Carolina at the age of 81.

Trula worked as a registered nurse at University Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico for many years and as a dietician at Fort Stewart Army Base in Hinesville, Georgia.  After returning to Engelhard, she worked in the seafood industry.  Trula loved people and always loved helping in whatever way she could, especially her family.  She volunteered and assisted in many area nursing homes.  Trula also served as the head cook at Sea Mark Foods in Nags Head, North Carolina for many years.  People came from near and far just to eat her cooking.  She loved cooking and preparing food for everyone not only at work but at home as well.  

Trula was preceded in death by her father, John Anson Gibbs; her mother Gertrude S. Gibbs; husband and love of her life, Larry L. Dozier; daughter, Crystal Dawn Gibbs Spencer; brothers, Crave Spencer, George Thomas Gibbs, and K.D. Gibbs; and sister, Pastor Laura E. Collins.

Trula leaves to cherish her memories her children, Pastor Arlene Robinson (Elder Rudolph) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina and Grady Gibbs of Manteo, North Carolina; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lillie Mae Gibbs of Engelhard, North Carolina and Catherine Byrd of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Betty Louise Spencer of Engelhard, North Carolina and Beulah Gibbs of Brooklyn, New York and a special nephew she considered as her son, Andre Gibbs of Engelhard, North Carolina; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A walk-through viewing will be held at Gallop Funeral Services Nags Head Chapel from 2 pm to 5 pm Friday September 2, 2022.  The funeral will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Mount Pilgrim Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in Engelhard, NC at 1 pm. Officiating will be Minister Pandora Riley. The interment will follow immediately at the Brown Memorial Cemetery in Engelhard.
