Traffic stops lead to drug-related arrests in Buxton, Kitty Hawk

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding three recent traffic stops that resulted in drug-related charges.

On November 10, 2021, at approximately 6:08 pm, a Deputy working the C-District conducted a traffic stop on N.C. Highway 12 in Buxton. During the traffic stop the Deputy established probable cause to conduct a search. An amount of Cocaine, Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia were located and seized. Brac Tonlin Cross, M/24, of Lexington, NC, was arrested and charged with (F) Possession of Cocaine and released on a $2,000 secured bond.

On November 6, 2021, at approximately 11:30 pm, a Deputy working the B-District assisted NC State Highway Patrol with a traffic stop on Hwy 158 and Birch Lane in Kitty Hawk. During the traffic stop marijuana was seen in plain view and a vehicle search was conducted. Marijuana, THC Wax, Marijuana Edibles and Drug Paraphernalia were located and seized. Hunter Lee Wayne Niles, M/18, of Camden, NC, was arrested and charged with (F) Possession of Marijuana, (F) Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance and (M) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and released on a $3,500 secured bond.

On November 17, 2021, at approximately 10:03 pm, a Deputy working the B-District conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 158 and Landing Trial in Kitty Hawk, NC. During the traffic stop the Deputy established probable cause to conduct a search. An amount of Marijuana, Concentrated THC, Drug Paraphernalia and a Firearm were located and seized. Kevin Lee Cofield Jr, M/23, of Elizabeth City, NC, was arrested and charged with (F) Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance and (F) Possession of Firearm by Felon and being held on a $1,500 secured bond. Kitty Hawk Police Department assisted in this incident.
