Traffic stops lead to drug arrests on Outer Banks

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office says two recent traffic stops led to drug arrests, one in Buxton and the other in Colington.

The first on April 8 at approximately 9:15 p.m., led to the arrest of 35-year-old Shelby Tyler Midgett, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Midgett was stopped on Old Light House Road in Buxton for driving on a revoked license. During the stop, deputies discovered THC Wax and numerous prescription medications, the sheriff’s office said.

Midgett, of the 2400 block of N. Holiday Boulevard in Rodanthe, was charged with felony possession of a schedule VI controlled substance. He was released on a $5,000 secured bond.

On April 14 at approximately 9:14 pm., the Dare County Narcotics Task Force stopped a vehicle for a drug investigation and during that stop, an amount of crack cocaine was discovered.

William Michael Capizzi, 69, of the 90 Block of Marshy Ridge Road, Colington was charged with felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, the sheriff’s office said. Capizzi was released on a $10,000 secured bond.
