Traffic checkpoint results in drug arrest in Kitty Hawk

On October 9, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., deputies from the A-District, along with support from several other agencies, conducted a checkpoint on Colington Road near the First Flight Airstrip. During the operation, officers conducted routine license checks when a driver was found to be in violation of their driving privileges.

While addressing the driving violation, a K-9 unit was deployed to the vehicle. The K-9 alerted officers to the presence of a controlled substance. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, which were seized as evidence. The driver was also assessed for driving under the influence of drugs by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

Sarah A. Gist, 33, Kitty Hawk, NC, was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and DWI-Drugs. Gist was issued a $5,000 secured bond.
