The Town of Manteo shines because of dedicated volunteers, Town staff, and Commissioners who participated in the 17th Annual Town of Manteo Litter Pick-up on Saturday, April 30, 2022, which is held in honor of Rodney “Crow” Murray, a long time Town employee. Many thanks to the 62 + volunteers who worked hard picking up litter alongside Town staff and Commissioners on a beautiful Outer Banks day.

With a spirit of community and friendship, people of all ages, families, student groups, Boy Scout Troop 165, Mount Olivet Children and Youth Group, NC Coastal Federation, Rotarians, Manteo High School students, Go Far and many others, gave the Town of Manteo a thorough spring cleaning.

The day was kicked off with donated coffee from Front Porch Café and donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts. This year, a special surprise was given to all those who participated by Damian and Stewart Weaver, owners of Frosties located in Downtown Manteo. Delivered with a smile was yummy ice cream, which is always a good idea!

Many thanks to the neighborhood team leaders, the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum, and citizens who again this year picked up litter including plastic bags, countless cigarette butts, cans, glass, cups, paper, and waterfront/marsh debris.  Some pretty interesting litter was found. The individual who found the most unusual litter received a gift certificate from Downtown Books located in downtown Manteo, nice going!

What a special community we live in where people volunteer to come together on a beautiful day to pick up litter!  Manteo shines even more today because of that type of authentic caring.
