The Foundation for Shackleford Horses reports that a wild mare and her foal who were harassed, chased and ultimately separated Friday were spotted back together at Cape Lookout National Seashore.
The foundation said a determined park volunteer who found mom and baby together early Sunday morning.
“Two days of work, worry, and wasted resources created by the irresponsibility of a few,” the foundation said in a Facebook post.
The incident that separated mom and baby happened around 4:30 p.m. near Wade Shore.
“A visitor reported witnessing three young men attempting to capture the foal for photos and subsequently chasing the mare,” the foundation said. “The mare and foal became separated from one another, which puts the foal at risk of death.”
