Beaufort County has its first two cases of COVID-19 coronavirus, following testing results released Tuesday.

Both individuals are doing well and isolating at home, and local health officials were working to identify contacts and provide guidance for self-isolation and self-monitoring, WCTI-12 reported.

The Beaufort County Health Department said the tests were conducted Monday by the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health.

That increases the total number of cases to seven in four different counties of northeastern North Carolina.

Three cases were reported Tuesday in Bertie County, one was announced in Hertford County on Monday, and the first case in the region was found in Pasquotank County last week.

No cases had been reported on the Outer Banks as of Tuesday evening.

Total patients diagnosed with the COVID-19 coronavirus in North Carolina moved above 400 on Tuesday. No deaths have been reported in the state.

Other developments on Tuesday:
— Pitt, Wake and Durham counties and Charlotte-Mecklenburg will be instituting stay-at-home orders that go into place as early as Thursday morning, with only essential businesses allowed to open.

— In a letter to President Trump, Governor Roy Cooper has requested a major disaster declaration for the state due to the continuing impacts of COVID-19 on North Carolina.
