Traffic stops lead to drugs arrests in Dare County

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office on Monday announced a series of drug arrests following traffic stops dating back to July 30:

On July 30, 2020, at approximately 1:00 am, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office A-District Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Eckner Street on Hwy 158 in Nags Head, NC. During the traffic stop the Deputies smelled an odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and an amount of Marijuana and a Stolen Firearm were located. Maquarius Vonte Jenkins (M/20) 5600 Block Belvue Farm Rd, Washington, NC was arrested and charged with (F) Possession of a Stolen Firearm, (M) Possession of Marijuana and cited for No Operator’s License. Jenkins was released on a $5,000 secured bond.

On August 5, 2020, at approximately 12:00 am, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office A-District Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Dogwood Trail near Hwy 158, Southern Shores, NC. During the traffic stop an amount of Heroin and Cocaine were located. Carlton Lynn Morris, Jr, (M/32) 300 Block of North Dogwood Trail, Southern Shores, NC was charged with (F) Trafficking in Heroin and (F) Possession of Cocaine. Morris was released on a $15,000 secured bond. Camden County Sheriff’s Office assisted in this investigation and arrest.

On August 15, 2020, at approximately 9:20 pm, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office B-District Deputies got out with a vehicle in the Freedmen’s Colony Parking Lot area on Roanoke Island, NC. When the Deputy spoke to the driver, they could smell the odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle an amount of Etizolam, Oxycodone, Buprenorphine and Marijuana were seized. Alyssa Faith Brantley, (F/20), 1100 Block Driftwood Drive, Manteo, NC was charged with (F) PWIMSD Schedule I Controlled Substance (Etizolam), (M) Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (Oxycodone), (M) Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance (Buprenorphine) and (M) Possession of Marijuana. Brantley was released on a $4,500 secured bond.

On August 15, 2020, at approximately 11:00 pm, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office B-District Deputies encountered a vehicle stuck in the ditch on Creef’s Ridge Rd, Manteo, NC and got out to investigate. The owner/driver of the vehicle was there and the Deputy noticed them taking some pills out their pocket. When asked about the pills the person tried to conceal them. Benjamin Herndon Boykin, (M/29), 100 Block Forest Ave, Manteo, NC was charged with (F) Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Etizolam) and (M) Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. Boykin has been released on a $4,500 secured bond.
