A few strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging winds will be possible across eastern North Carolina this afternoon and early evening, but the forecast looks to be just about perfect for the last weekend of April.

“Widely scattered showers are expected to develop late morning and early afternoon, with a broken line of showers and storms likely pushing through between 4 and 8 p.m.,” said National Weather Service forecaster Casey Dail at the Newport/Morehead City.

The main impact from the thunderstorms could be winds of 40 to 60 mph and some gusts above 70 mph.

After the cold front clears the area, it will be breezy with sunny skies on Saturday. Highs will be around 70. Sunday should be warmer, with temperatures nearing 80.

Another front will cross the region Sunday night, drop temperatures back to the upper 60s for Monday and then they rebound into the upper 70s to start the month of May.
