Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative has scheduled maintenance work for this week that will affect power to southern Hatteras Island and Ocracoke.

Following an outage Monday morning for the tri-villages and Avon, power for Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras and Ocracoke will be from the diesel generators for the next several days while a new circuit breaker is installed and other work is completed at the substation in Buxton.

Once the work is completed, another brief outage will take place in Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon for the switch back to shore power.

The co-op routinely schedules work of this nature when power demand on the islands is at its lowest, but they ask that customers try to conserve electricity while the grid is on generators as a precaution.
