Second Dare County resident dies of COVID-19

Dare County has experienced its second coronavirus death.

Dare County Health and Human Services Director Sheila Davies said details of that case will be released in Friday’s COVID-19 update. The patient had been hospitalized.

Health officials did not publicly report the death separately Thursday, but posted the fatality in the agency’s daily case counts on Facebook, without comment.

Dare County’s first coronavirus death was in April, a local man in his early 90s.

As of Thursday evening, the county’s total number of positive coronavirus cases stood at 345 since testing began in March. Of those, 197 are Dare County residents and 148 are non-residents, with 116 current active cases.
