Rumors that local leaders are planning to restrict access to the Outer Banks due to spiking COVID-19 cases are untrue.
County senior leaders did meet Thursday to discuss Gov. Roy Cooper’s extension of Phase 3 restrictions and added coronavirus mitigation measures, but “no changes were made (or discussed) regarding the state of emergency that is currently in effect,” Dare County spokeswoman Dorothy Hester said in an email.
Currituck Emergency Management posted on Facebook today that they had learned of rumors “saying that access to the OBX will be prohibited for non-residents beginning on Monday at the Wright Memorial Bridge.”
“Currituck County has NOT requested that access to the OBX be denied to any residents, property owners, or visitors and has no plans to restrict access to the OBX,” the post said.
