Rough surf and high astronomical tides have caused severe damage to the Prospect and Glenmere beach accesses in Kill Devil Hills.

Both accesses will remain closed until further notice and the town is asking people to stay clear until repairs have been made and the accesses deemed safe.

A powerful pre-winter storm is bringing snow, sleet and freezing rain from Washington D.C. up to New England today, with snow also forecast for the Virginia and North Carolina mountains and ice as far east as the Triangle.

The new moon will lead to higher tides the rest of the week, and coupled with easterly winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts of up to 40, minor flooding along the sounds and coastal rivers in very low-lying areas.
