Sixth District Rep. Bobby Hanig, who was elected to a second two-year term in November, has been chosen for a leadership role in the North Carolina House.
The Republican from Powells Point has been selected to be a deputy House majority whip when the General Assembly begins a new session next month.
The role includes keeping members informed of the legislative calendar and assist with vote-countng for bills in committee and on the floor.
“I certainly appreciate this opportunity from my colleagues and am looking forward to making a positive impact for the people of House District 6 and all North Carolinians in this new role,” Hanig said.
House Speaker Tim Moore, a Republican from Columbus County, has been nominated to serve a fourth-straight term, which would tie the record held by Rep. Liston Ramsey from 1981-88, and Rep. Jim Black from 1999-2004.
The General Assembly is scheduled to convene the 2021-22 session in Raleigh on January 13.
