The wooden walkover, stairs, and ramp at the Ocean Bay Beach Access will be temporarily closed this week, while they are being replaced and a new wheelchair ramp is being installed.
The closure is anticipated to re-open at the beginning of April. Bathrooms will remain open and citizens can still access the beach by using the sand walkover, to the immediate right of the building.
The improvements are being done in preparation of designating Kill Devil Hills’ first fully accessible beach access.
A ramp down to the beach and rollout mat will be installed, allowing those using wheelchairs to more easily reach the ocean.
