In conjunction with the 117th Anniversary of the First Heavier-Than-Air Flight by Wilbur and Orville Wright, the Town of Kill Devil Hills’ annual fireworks event will be held Thursday, December 17, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., at the Avalon Pier.

Should persons chose to watch the fireworks show from the beach, and not the livestream offering, please do safely: only watch the in-person show with members of your household, keep a minimum physical distance of six (6) feet between you and others, wear a cloth face covering, and, if you are not feeling well, stay home.

The Town of Kill Devil Hills has conducted a fireworks event, celebrating the Fourth of July for many years; however, the Coronavirus pandemic caused this year’s event to be postponed from the traditional night of July 4th to December 17th. While the pandemic is still very much a threat and should not be thought of lightly, the Town has evaluated several factors, which lead to the decision to continue with the show on December 17th. The Town’s population has drastically decreased from July to December, with many seasonal visitors having left and as a result, there is additional room for people to physically remain apart on the beach to watch the show. The Town is also able to offer a livestreaming option and recorded options for people to enjoy watching the fireworks safely and from their own home, and on their own time.

The health and safety of everyone continues to be our top priority – it is something that we take very seriously. Again, we are encouraging viewers to enjoy the show from the comfort of their own homes or to take the necessary and responsible precautions to safely watch the fireworks on the beach.
