Weather conditions across North Carolina on Friday are ripe for outdoor fires to spread quickly, and have led the National Weather Service to post a red flag warning for nearly the entire state.

The combination of very low relative humidity and northwest winds gusting 25 to 30 mph can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

N.C. Forest Service officials have urged citizens to reconsider burning yard debris through the end of May, which historically marks the end of spring wildfire season in North Carolina.
