It’s been a whirlwind year for Outer Banks native Tyler Nilson.

A Colington kid who graduated from Manteo High School in 2000, Nilson had a little movie that debuted last summer that you may have heard about: “The Peanut Butter Falcon”.

Since then he’s been at red carpet premieres, film festivals all over the country and the world, all while in true local style…barefooted!

Schwartz and Nilson wrote the film featuring Zack Gottsagen in the lead role after they met him at a camp for disabled actors and were inspired by his fierce determination to become a leading man in Hollywood.

Gottsagen went on to be the first person with Down syndrome to present at the Oscars, among other accolades.

The Pioneer Theatre in Downtown Manteo, which reopened Friday after being closed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, is showing “The Peanut Butter Falcon” all this week.

Tyler Nilson stopped by 99.1 The Sound on Friday to talk with Lisa Brickhouse about what the past 14 months have been like and what he has coming up.
