A slow-moving thunderstorm Sunday evening dumped more than five inches of rain on parts of Nags Head, overwhelming the town’s drainage system areas in some spots between Jockey’s Ridge and South Nags Head.

“We have crews out checking on the drainage system and performing maintenance as necessary to ensure that the rainwater can be drained out properly,” the town said in a Facebook post Monday morning.

“Please drive slowly and use caution when driving through areas of standing water. It may take some time for the system to catch up so please be patient.”
