The Dare Control Group says it will release a plan Tuesday to address the lifting of restrictions to the county’s section of the Outer Banks, which includes Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills,, Nags Head, Manteo and Hatteras Island.
In a news release, the control said members have carefully considered “the science, trends, data and resource availability,” and has asked staff to prepare the plan. The group did not say what time the plan will be released Tuesday.
Dare County Health and Human Services Director Sheila Davies said in a video posted Monday afternoon that non-resident property owners will be allowed entry first.
That would be similar to previous entry procedures used by Dare County following storms.
As of Monday morning, the number of coronavirus cases in Dare County remains at 15, with 14 fully recovered. One patient, an elderly resident, died.
In North Carolina, there are currently 6,764 cases of COVID-19 in 93 counties. There have been 179 fatalities in the state associated with COVID-19. Currently, the state is reporting 373 hospitalizations across the state from COVID-19 illness.
Dare County health care providers are testing individuals who they believe are in need of COVID-19 testing and meet the NC DHHS guidelines for testing which include: fever of 100.4 or higher, cough and respiratory illness. The return time for test results has dramatically improved since testing started in late February. We now are receiving results back within 24 – 72 hours. While the test results we have been receiving over the past week have all been negative, this does not mean that the COVID-19 virus is not in our community. Remember, the CDC reports that approximately 25% of patients with COVID-19 do not show symptoms. We all must continue to do our part to keep our community healthy.
The Dare County Board of Commissioners will hold their regularly scheduled meeting today at 5 p.m. at the Dare County Administration Building in Manteo.
