After numerous eligible residents reported they were unable to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at drive-thru clinics last week, Currituck County and Albemarle Regional Health Services have launched new efforts to help with the process.
Albemarle Regional Health Services, which is overseeing distribution of the coronavirus vaccine as part of its operation of the health departments in eight northeastern North Carolina counties including Currituck, has launched a registration website.
“ARHS hopes that the online registration form will help meet the demand for the COVID-19 vaccines across the region,” said ARHS Health Director R. Battle Betts, Jr. “We encourage Phase 1b group 1 individuals 75 and older, to register so we can ensure you have access to the vaccine,” Betts said.
North Carolina is currently vaccinating those in Phase 1A, including hospital workers, long-term care patients and workers, and Phase 1B Group 1, all persons 75 years and older.
While health departments are encouraging residents to get their shots through the health department in their home county, state policy allows North Carolinians to get the vaccination in any county they choose.

The information collected in each county will be used for exact vaccine allocations for the week of January 19 through 22.
“We know individuals in this target group may not have access to web or email; however, they can call our offices for assistance. We also ask that neighbors help neighbors,” Betts said. “Please reach out to your family and friends who are in this age group and help them with the registration process.”
Those who have not already registered with the Currituck Health Department are encouraged to call 252-232-2115, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents in other counties can call their health departments.
Currituck County will have 500 shots to distribute in the next round. Pasquotank County has been allocated 600 doses, Hertford County 400 doses, Bertie, Chowan and Perquimans 300 and Camden and Gates 200 shots.
Second dose vaccine clinics will be scheduled by ARHS for the last week of January and the first week of February. Specific dates and times will be announced soon.

Hyde County said they currently have vaccines at the health department in Swan Quarter, but have not yet received shots for the clinics in Ocracoke and Englehard. Call (252) 926-4399 for more info.
