It certainly looks a bit like a bomb, but the Town of Kill Devil Hills says an old, barnacled military device that washed up in the surf Monday just south of milepost 5 isn’t an explosive.

“It has understandably caused some concern, but it is not dangerous,” the town said in a Facebook post. “Our best guess is that it is some kind of anti-submarine target.”

While we appreciate the concern, there's nothing to worry about with this object.

The Navy will soon be responding to pick up the concrete-filled device covered in “sharp edged sea things,” the town said.

If you go to take a look, remember social distancing.
