North Carolina passes 8,000 COVID-related deaths; Dare total cases now over 2,200

More than 8,000 residents of North Carolina have now died from COVID-19, while total cases of the coronavirus in Dare County have crossed the 2,200 mark.

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported 83 new deaths as of Saturday to bring the statewide total to 8,016.

Another 7,986 positive tests were recorded across the state, with 3,895 people were hospitalized.

NCDHHS on Thursday announced changes to their Vaccine Prioritization Phases. Under the new plan, all healthcare workers and individuals 65 years of age and older may now receive the vaccine. As a result, Dare County is now accepting Vaccine Appointment Requests for these individuals.

If you are a healthcare worker or at least 65 years of age, you may submit a request for a Vaccination Appointment at www.darenc.com/Register4Vaccine or by calling the COVID-19 call center at 252-475-5008.

Dare County DHHS receives a limited supply of vaccine on a weekly basis from the state. We will schedule appointments for individuals from the appropriate Phase as the vaccine supply allows. Based on the anticipated number of individuals in this phase, we anticipate it could take 6-8 weeks before all individuals in these Prioritization Phases who wish to be vaccinated receive one.

For more information or details on the various Phases and who falls under which Phase is visit www.darenc.com/covidvaccine.
