Local firefighters rescued several animals from a burning home in lower Currituck County Saturday evening.
Crews were called the 200 block of South Spot Road in Spot at 5:49 p.m. to a single-wide trailer that was showing heavy smoke from the eaves, according to Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chief Vernon Hart.
Hart said it was initially thought two people may have been inside, but they were found to be elsewhere at the time.
Lower Currituck and Currituck Fire and EMS personnel were able to rescue several animals, while members of the Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department located the rest, Hart said.
The trailer was ruled a total loss due to heat and smoke damage. The fire appeared to start near a clothes dryer, and the cause remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
Also responding to the scene was the Crawford Township Volunteer Fire Department.
